An international conference showcasing robotic arm surgery technique will be held at Hotel Westin in the city from April 27-29. During this, fifty surgeries will be performed free-of-cost. This will be telecast live at the conference for 1,200 doctors from Pune.

Talking more on this, Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar, laparoscopic and robotic cancer surgeon and chief medical director of Galaxy Care Hospital, said,"3Arm Da Vinci Robot system introduced at the institute has helped perform 300 robotic surgeries, of which 164 are cancer surgeries."

He further added, "The objective of introduction of robotics is to widen the implications of minimal invasive surgery and make the procedures easier to perform. In oncology, the most important factor is oncological clearance, which turns into survival benefits. The experience of using robotics in various oncological procedures has shown comparable results with laparoscopy. Adding the robotic surgery is an emerging field with rapid recognition owing to its 3-dimensional image, the ability of instruments and autonomy of camera control. The conference will be attended by 1,200 doctors from India and abroad.

A robotic surgery that normally costs Rs. 1.5-2 lakh will be performed free of cost during the conference.
