Pune’s Galaxy Care Hospital Made India’s First Womb Transplant a Success

India’s first womb transplant successfully performed at

Galaxy Care Hospital

on Thursday. With the help of this surgery, a 21-year-old woman who was born without uterus was given her mother’s womb.

After performing this successful transplant Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar said, “We started preparing for this surgery one day prior. We started the surgery around 12 noon. It took 4 hours to separate the womb from the mother’s body. After this, the womb was transplanted to the daughter’s body. At around 9:15 in the night, the surgery was successful. Both, mother and daughter, are in stable condition.”
